We worked with Just For Men and their parent company Combe between 2019 and 2022, taking on projects ranging from in-stadium 10 second bumpers to a digital mini-series with influencer stylists. JFM/Combe had a ton of assets to manage, and a long list of deliverables for the majority of their projects. Their library of assets was also vast and complex - setting up a workflow and organization to allow for quick access and retrieval of assets was pivotal to being able to keep to deadlines. This account kept us on our toes and also gave us a chance to work with some new subject matter.]

Ease of Use w/ Davy Newkirk

We got the opportunity to do some influencer-based work with Just For Men, which was a fun experience. Davy Newkirk came to our office and we shot several set ups with him and some additional talent, doing some “how to” men’s style edits, using Just For Men. It was a small production but turned out to have a lot of flavor. Davy was very natural on set and he and the talent gelled really well.

UK Stadium Trailer

This project came out of the blue one day, and it was a single day turn around (those are the BEST). Client had an opportunity to place a quick 10 second bumper ad in a UK football stadium for the weekend. They had some footage and a product shot, and needed something bold and hard hitting. We cut this together in an afternoon and it went to air without a single note. Now THAT really IS the best.

41 Shades

When we started working with Combe/Just For Men, the client had just shot a bunch of footage for some e-commerce assets they needed right away. 41 different subjects that garnered over three terabytes of footage. The cuts themselves were straightforward, but doing a proper organization of so much footage so quickly was a challenge. We broke off some additional support from others projects and divided and conquered, using a standardized project file we made. The following day, we jammed through 41x :06 cuts, and sent to client. I think we got less than a dozen notes back, all together? Finishing was a lift, just by virtue of conforming so much graded footage, but we got it all up and out to client with time to spare. A good look for our first gig.

Just the facts

“Just The Facts” was an ongoing campaign for Just For Men, which started as a couple social/web edits with a motion graphics approach. The spots proved to be highly effective for the client, so they came back wanting us to blow it out into a larger campaign. We developed 3 main concepts around their “Mustache & Beard”, “Shampoo-in Color” and “Control GX” products, and shipped both nationally and internationally

As part of this campaign, we were tasked with finding very specific stock imagery to use, some of which needed to toe the line of communicating gambling being fun (playing at the idea of “risk”). Conventional methods and stock libraries were falling short, so I generated assets using Google Gemini’s Nano Banana, combined with some good ol’ fashioned photoshop. The client ended up being super happy with the results, and it was the first spots we shipped that integrated AI assets into, including stills and AI VO. I also did all the sound design and mixing for these spots myself. It turned out to be a great project that stretched our capabilities.
